A little something about me…

I’ve been making ever since I was small! You could always find me happily absorbed in craft projects; quilling, fimo, decoupage… to name a few. I was always experimenting with different materials melting wax to create flowers! ( not sure how safe that was!), marbling with PVA! I can’t imagine a life without creativity !

I still enjoy experimenting with different materials and craft is still at the heart of what I do, but it`s about making the craft my own and I do that through play and experimentation. I now make jewellery, which I treat like wearable works of art, paper art and installations. After studying a mixed media degree in Fine Art in the friendly city of Cardiff, I moved to London to do a two year MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art. I began my degree by painting, but soon started creating miniature paper installations and by the time I started my MA I was creating room sized textile installations. I now use a mixture of fabric, paper, wood, perspex, which I laser cut to create my work.

I am passionate about spreading the word about how wonderful creativity is! so I do lots of workshops and projects with different communities from school children to adults suffering with mental health difficulties. I have recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, which I loved!

By the seaside…..

I realised when i was in Whitby how much i appreciate being by the sea….i don`t have nearly enough seaside holidays! I must plan seaside getaways more often because my walks along the beach and ice creams have really reinvigorated me!

Robin Hood`s Bay is really near and was the most adorable place with tiny ice cream parlours…it was like stepping back in time and even though it was the most beautiful day it didn`t seem too busy. Sea, sun and time warp was sooo relaxing!

Cosy pubs for a refreshing gin & tonic……

Whitby scampi and fish and chips on the beach- whilst keeping an eye out nobody tries to steal a chip!…

And the weekend is over far too quickly….

Sunny and inspirational….

I hope you got out in the sun this weekend…..i don`t know about you, but because i`m so appreciative of the sun when it finally does come out there is a certain amount of anxiety about making the ‘most of it’- as it involves ticking off a list of summer fun; picnic, BBQ, go to the beach, sunbathe, eat ice cream, have a gin and tonic, swim etc..! (you see life is hard when it`s sunny!) I spent the weekend in Whitby (i`d never been before) it was sooo lovely and the list just got ticked without even me trying!

We went to Nunnington Hall, the miniature displays were supposed to be good, but there was unexpected inspiration too…

the amazing wallpaper…

this AMAZING quilled jewellery box was probably the most inspiring of all…

below one of the many beautiful miniature displays..

there was even an exhibtion of Chagall and Miro drawings and paintings!

New Ghosts-making choices….

I wanted to give them a choice of either altering a book in a two dimensional way offering more opportunities to write, OR working a three dimensional way of working inspired by Su Blackwell. When presented with this choice the vibrant full of ideas tuesday group surprisingly couldn`t grasp being given this choice and it took most of the session for the class to fully grasp what choice to make. The quieter, more cautious monday group coped with the decision well and seemed to revel in being given this opportunity.

The tuesday group struggled to use their own initiative and needed constant direction whereas the monday group again seemed to cope better with their freedom to make……

New Ghosts- Mythical environments…

Both groups made a beak book to start to imagine where their myth might take place- John Lindley (the writer) worked with both groups to help make inspire and make their myths modern ….the results were really beautiful with lots of detailed designs…
