A little something about me…

I’ve been making ever since I was small! You could always find me happily absorbed in craft projects; quilling, fimo, decoupage… to name a few. I was always experimenting with different materials melting wax to create flowers! ( not sure how safe that was!), marbling with PVA! I can’t imagine a life without creativity !

I still enjoy experimenting with different materials and craft is still at the heart of what I do, but it`s about making the craft my own and I do that through play and experimentation. I now make jewellery, which I treat like wearable works of art, paper art and installations. After studying a mixed media degree in Fine Art in the friendly city of Cardiff, I moved to London to do a two year MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art. I began my degree by painting, but soon started creating miniature paper installations and by the time I started my MA I was creating room sized textile installations. I now use a mixture of fabric, paper, wood, perspex, which I laser cut to create my work.

I am passionate about spreading the word about how wonderful creativity is! so I do lots of workshops and projects with different communities from school children to adults suffering with mental health difficulties. I have recently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, which I loved!

Three-Dimensional Pictures….

I can`t get enough of layering! These three-dimensional pictures are all about layering! Made from laser cut mount board, japanese paper, brass and cork (to create the height) layered to play with depth and pattern.

Laser cut paper creations!

All three pictures are inspired by different places; Newby Hall (my favourite stately home and where I got married!), Port Meirion ( such a quirky place) and Claydon House (another beautiful stately home).

The picture below is Newby Hall, a beautiful stately home in Yorkshire, near Ripon. I designed it for my wedding invitation and was inspired by the ceiling in the statue gallery. It`s made from laser cut mount board, layered underneath with coloured paper and japanese paper in the centre. The back of each picture is mount board, making the pieces 3 mm thick.

I love these frames from Nkuku, the pictures fit perfectly in them!

Back in the studio at last!…

The last six months have been so busy I`ve not had nearly as much time as I`d have liked in my studio, mainly because I`ve started a post graduate course in Integrative Psychotherapy. Psychotherapy has been a passion for a long time and I`m amazed how closely creativity and Psychotherapy are linked. My experience of my Psychotherapy course so far has been AMAZING, life changing, challenging, enlightening…..these words don`t even begin to describe it…I`ll share more when  the words come to me…but now I have some time in my studio over summer, which is bliss!

I`ve been laser cutting card and experimenting with different patterns…..

ExperimentingI like to be hands on when I`m designing, so I`m experimenting with this new way of designing, so some of these shapes might end up being mirrors, jewellery etc. Here are some of my favourites….

My task over summer is to create my new collection Dolce Vita, which is going to made from walnut, mirrored perspex and frosted perspex. I`m really excited at the beautiful colours the perspex comes in…
